A nation with no justified identity, no proper residential
acknowledgement, isolated from homeland; asked refuge and shelter to
Bangladesh. With no delay, the honorable Prime Minister of Bangladesh
ordered to open the border. Bangladesh allocated a separate island for
these stateless peoples, now.
Bhashan Char, previously known as Thengar Char, an island located at
Hatiya Island in the Bay of Bengal, is going to be the temporary home of
‘Rohingya’ refugees from Myanmar as decided by the government of the
Peoples’ Republic of Bangladesh. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is
scheduled to visit Bhashan Char on October 3 to inaugurate the houses to
the Rohingya families.
A total of 100,000 Rohingyas will be transferred to the island on
completion of the work as stated by the additional secretary to the
Disaster Management and Relief Ministry Mohammad Habibul Kabir
Chowdhury. 80% work of the project work is complete and the rest will be
done within the next one and a half months, he added. Mentioning that,
Bangladesh Navy has built a total of 1,440 barrack houses and 120
central shelters to accommodate the Rohingyas in 120 village clusters. A
senior officer of the Bangladesh Navy said, they had built one-storied
buildings with 16 units to accommodate 16 Rohingya families. The
Bangladesh Navy is implementing the project which is likely to be
completed by 2019.
Bhashan Char is located in the estuary of the Meghna River. It takes
about 90 minutes to reach Hatiya Island from Noakhali on the mainland,
from where a speedboat takes another 30 minutes to get to Bhashan. On
November 28, 2017, the Executive Committee of the National Economic
Council (ECNEC) had approved the ‘Asrayan-3’ project involving an outlay
of about BDT 2,300 Crore to accommodate 1,00,000 Rohingyas.
Solar based electricity, water supply, sanitation, hospital, market,
roads, dam, playing field, ponds, water extraction infrastructure, tube
wells, others infrastructure and watch towers have already been
installed in the Bhashan Char to house the Rohingya peoples.
The world acknowledges the humanity of Bangladesh and its’ people.
With no obvious doubt this act of kindness is an example to the whole
world.
